This program prepares students for university transfer and careers in law enforcement, investigation, non-profit advocacy organizations, and in the legal field by equipping students with skills in critical and analytical thinking, written and verbal communication, organization, and research.

The criminal justice AA pathway provides students with a foundational understanding of crime, criminal behavior, and the criminal justice system within a social and legal context. Students examine the causes of crime, the development and enforcement of laws, and the roles of law enforcement, courts, and corrections in responding to crime and maintaining public safety.
Coursework emphasizes critical thinking, ethical reasoning, written and oral communication, and the application of social science research methods. Students explore topics such as policing, corrections, victimization, juvenile justice, and crime prevention, while analyzing how social, economic, and cultural factors influence crime and justice outcomes.
This concentration is part of the Tennessee Transfer Pathway (TTP) and is designed to prepare students for seamless transfer to a Tennessee public university. Upon completion, students will have satisfied lower-division general education and major preparation requirements, allowing them to continue toward a bachelor’s degree in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, or a related field.
